HC moved seeking govt steps to stop protest-caused traffic jams

A Supreme Court lawyer today filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive on the government to take immediate steps to avoid traffic congestion during protests.
Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC saying that the gathering, which harms public health, violates their right to life under Article 32 the constitution of the country.
In the petition, he prayed to the HC to issue a rule asking law and home secretaries and inspector general of police to explain why their inaction in this regard should not be declared illegal. It said the result of their inaction violates the spirit of the right to life ensured by articles 31 and 32 of the constitution.
Lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun told The Daily Star that the HC may hold a hearing of the petition next week.
